In the News!
This is almost old news at this point but I'm still pretty excited about it. On February 14th (Weekend Edition) I was quoted in an article in Newsday's Bridal section about the centerpieces at our wedding. So here is an online version of the story (the printed version had a photo of our table centerpiece). I love that the online version has a DIY video on how to create your own bouquet.Wednesday, November 18, 2009

DIY Projects
Rainy days like today are perfect for inside projects. As kids, my mom was always thinking of new project for us including fancy sock poppets, beaded Christmas ornaments, leaf rubbing, etc. So here are a few fun DIY projects to keep you busy (like we need more stuff to do, but at least this stuff is fun!).

Adorable DIY Wedding Ideas
Homemade Jam Favors from 100 Layers. This is a great idea right after July blueberry picking season.
I love this guest book idea from Classic Bride . If you are having a really large wedding, maybe you could have a forest!?

Friday Treats
I'm so happy it's Friday even with a busy weekend of BBQs and lunches plus the usual wedding preparations as I'm now down to that last 5 weeks! So here are some great inspirations from my week.
Gorgeous! The pink inspiration posting at Decor 8 this week has seriously inspired me to re-do my office/guest room in soft pinks - just as soon as the wedding stuff is over with that is.
Creature Comforts was full of cute and pretty quick DIY projects this week. Check out the Sliver frame and above and more.
I love this invitation from 100 Layers - so creative and elegant. I feel the need to throw a tea party just for the girls.
I just finished reading The Diving Bell and the Butterfly which was turned into a movie a few years ago. It is really a beautiful story that reminds you to appreciate the simplest of life's gifts. Or as Edmund White perfectly states, the book makes you "fall back in love with life". A must read!

I completed the first Pomander! The instructions that I used are at Vintage Glam Weddings
I used 5" Styrofoam balls, floral pins and foam glue from Save On Crafts.com. The individual paper flowers are made of 4-5 sheets of cut tissue paper and floral wire. I found the tissue paper in large packs at Papermart.com
Each ball require 40-45 individual paper flowers. I found it easiest to crank out tons of flowers and then make the complete pomander once I had enough.
I used about 30" of ribbon for the handle as mine are going to hang off of large pews at the church and then from shepherds hooks at the reception site walkway. The ribbon was secured using two of the long floral pins.
I lightly dipped the wire of every few flowers in the glue and then stuck them into the foam ball leaving only about an inch between them.

Only nine more to go!

Friday Treats - DIY Projects
Happy Friday! I have been working endlessly on my wedding to do list this week and still feel behind, but I almost have the list down to one page from two. However, my apartment is a complete mess with several DIY projects going on at once - I promise to post pics once one of them is completed! So in the meantime, here are a few DIY projects for your weekend:
Pretty Ruffle Belt via 100 Layer Cake. It reminds me of the J Crew blouse from Jenna's picks below.
Photo Lanterns at Decor 8. I have already purchased the lanterns and battery operated votives for my wedding. If I can actually fine the time I think this project will be added to the to do list.

Happy Friday
I think this is going to be a very exciting weekend! Tomorrow I am picking up a pair of vintage chairs that I found on Craig's List for $75. They need a little painting and some upholstery work but they will be a perfect replacement for my Ikea couch. After that I am going home to see my brother who has just come home from a semester in London. He has a bunch of goodies that he picked up for me while travelling through Europe - and he has some pretty good taste for a guy! While home my mom and I will be working on some DIY wedding projects. I hope everyone has a great weekend. I should have some great pictures for you on Monday!
